About the College
The College of Education for Women holds a distinguished academic standing as one of the most prominent institutions for both humanities and sciences at the University of Tikrit. It is located in the center of Tikrit city, outside the main university campus, and comprises two main buildings: one dedicated to the scientific departments and the other to the humanities, which also houses the administrative offices of the Dean’s Office.
The College was established in 1987, the same year the University of Tikrit was founded. Serving as the nucleus of the University, it is regarded as its oldest academic institution and has accordingly been referred to as the “Mother College.” Since its establishment, it has played a pivotal role in realizing the objectives, ambitions, and strategic plans of higher education, particularly in preparing qualified female graduates to take on secondary education responsibilities across the country. In addition, it has contributed to the preparation of specialized researchers in both scientific and humanistic fields, with its eight departments offering a wide range of academic disciplines. Over the years, the College has become a vital source for providing competent national academic staff, thereby supporting the advancement of scientific research and serving both the local and Arab communities.
Female students were first admitted in the academic year 1988–1989 to three departments: Mathematics, Arabic Language, and English Language. Subsequently, the departments of Chemistry and Biology were established, followed by Qur’anic Sciences, Educational and Psychological Sciences, History, and finally the Department of Home Economics, which represents the true embodiment of the concept of a “College of Education for Women.”
The College also encompasses a variety of facilities, most notably a large library containing extensive collections of books, journals, and cultural materials. Its holdings include 15,575 books, 265 periodicals, 1,204 theses and dissertations, and 175 compact discs.
