Department of English Language

The Department of English is one of the pioneering departments in the university, established in the academic year 1988–1989 to serve the female students of Salahaddin Governorate and other Iraqi governorates. The department offers a variety of linguistic and literary courses with a strong focus on language, phonetics, drama, translation, and conversation, utilizing modern facilities, including advanced language laboratories that enhance students’ pronunciation accuracy and speaking fluency.

This diversity in curriculum plays a vital role in preparing students for the labor market in both the public and private sectors. The department aims to achieve several academic and social objectives, most notably graduating qualified students capable of teaching English in intermediate and secondary schools across the country, with a focus on both academic and pedagogical preparation. The goal of preparing pedagogically qualified teachers is to contribute to building a scientifically advanced society and supporting plans for educational development.

The department also strives to enhance the academic level of its faculty members by encouraging research, participation in scientific conferences, and staying updated with the latest developments in English language and literature. Furthermore, it seeks to establish channels of communication and areas of collaboration with similar departments in other universities through postgraduate discussions, supervision, and evaluation of scientific research.
